1. How do I need to prepare the ceiling before I install the glue up tiles? If you are planning on installing glue up tiles to your ceiling, you will want to make sure your ceiling is clean. We recommend that you have a fresh coat of primer or paint on the ceiling before the panels are installed. 2. What can I use to cut the ceiling tiles? To cut the ceiling tiles, you can use a utility knife, scissors or a tin snips. 3. What kind of adhesive do I need to install the glue up panels? The preferred method for installing glue up panels is to use a notched trowel and apply FRP adhesive directly to the ceiling panel. Some examples of this type of adhesive include Fast or Grab brand adhesives. A tube adhesive is another option. Any type of 100% Polyurethane Premium Construction Adhesive can be used, but due to the slower setting period, additional checking and repressing of the tiles may be required. 4. If I choose to use the Tube Adhesive, how much do I need to purchase? When gluing up the ceiling panels, you will need 1 tube per 2’x4’ tile. You will want to apply it as shown in the diagram below. 5. What is J-trim and do I need to use it? J-Trim is a 4’ piece that is available to you to use along the edge of your ceiling. The trim is not required, but does give your ceiling a nice, finished look. The trim pieces are available in the same colors as the tiles (corresponding trim for two-tone finish #'s 22 & 23 are only available in either the base finish or gold). |
6. Can the ceiling panels be cleaned? Once you have your ceiling installed, the tiles can be cleaned with warm soapy water. Any harsh abrasives or chemicals will damage the finish on the tiles. 7. Can I get samples of the ceiling tiles? 6”x6” samples are available to you free of charge. Submit your request via our website or give us a call at 1-800-434-3750. 8. What tools will I need to install the ceiling tiles? To install your ceiling panels, you will need the following: Tape Measure Tin Snips or Scissors Utility Knife Steel Straight Edge Adhesive Permanent Marker 9. During the installation of my ceiling, some of the adhesive dried on the finish side of my panels. How can I remove that? If some of the adhesive has dried on the finish side of the panels, you can use Mineral Spirits to remove it. This is the only thing that can be used that will not damage the finish on the tile. It is best to remove any excess adhesive immediately using a damp cloth. Allowing excess adhesive to dry on the finished side of the panel may harm the finish. 10. Do I need to install regular acoustic panels behind the lay-in panels? It is recommended that some type of mineral board tiles be installed behind the tin style panels. Not only will this prevent the tiles from lifting with any air flow, but it will also add acoustical value and prevent the middle of the tile from sagging. If used with HG-Grid, regular acoustic panels need to be used behind the lay-in panels. 11. Am I able to nail-up the ‘glue-up’ ceiling panels? Yes, as long as you are using the glue-up ceiling tiles you are able to use finishing nails. We recommend spacing the nails every 6 inches to avoid a ripple effect. Please note that the nails will be more noticeable when used with certain styles and finishes. |
